3 Finalists Selected for Appeals Court Post (Jul 21, 2011)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Two judges and a former judge have been selected as finalists for a position on the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals.

The Tulsa World reports that the state Judicial Nominating Commission picked Tulsa County District Judge Tom Thornbrugh, McCurtain County Associate District Judge Michael DeBerry and attorney Deidre Dexter from a field of seven applicants.

Gov. Mary Fallin will decide who fills the opening created by Judge Doug Gabbard II's retirement.

Thornbrugh has been a district judge since 1997 and is the district's presiding judge. Dexter was an associate district judge in Tulsa until she lost an election in 2003.

DeBerry is based in Idabel.

The Court of Civil Appeals is an intermediate appellate court for civil cases. The Supreme Court is the state's highest court on civil matters.
