June Unemployment Rate Stays the Same (Jul 22, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma's unemployment rate remained unchanged in June. The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported Friday that the state jobless rate was 5.3 percent, the same rate reported in May.

Commission officials say 92,490 people were unemployed last month, up from 92,160 in May. However, the labor force declined from May to June, falling from 1,737,340 to 1,730,410.

Last month's unemployment rate is below the June 2010 rate of 7 percent.

Statistics showed 11 of Oklahoma's statewide supersectors posted job gains, led by the categories of leisure and hospitality; trade, transportation and utilities and government. The OESC reported a job gain of 1,700 in the leisure and hospitality category and 1,400 in the government category.

The biggest job losses came in financial activities, 800; professional and business services, 300, and information, 100.
