Oklahoma Voices: Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, a Radio Drama (Jul 25, 2011)
In 2004, the Oklahoma Historical Society presented a radio play about the origination of the song, “Swing Low Sweet Chariot.” That song will become the state’s official gospel song on November first of this year. Wallace Willis, a Choctawfreedman, wrote the song in Indian Territory in 1862. The audio recording for this episode of Oklahoma Voices was made possible through the assistance of KOMA radio, which helped record it and aired it seven years ago, and by Michael Dean of the Oklahoma History Center, who begins the program.
