Homecoming Ceremony Set for State Soldiers (Aug 16, 2011)

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — A welcome-home ceremony is set in Norman for more than 50 Oklahoma National Guard soldiers returning from Afghanistan.

The public is invited to the ceremony at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Armed Forces Reserve Center located near Interstate 35 and Tecumseh Road.

The 55 soldiers with the 1-245th Airfield Operations Battalion have spent the last eight months in Afghanistan.

Six Oklahoma soldiers serving in Afghanistan have died in separate incidents in recent weeks, including four members of the Oklahoma National Guard.

More than 3,000 Guard soldiers with the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team are serving in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
