Sand Springs PD to Change Qualifications (Aug 22, 2011)

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. (AP) — The Sand Springs Police Department is making an exception to its requirement of 60 hours college credit in order to qualify as an entry level police officer.

Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter said in a Monday news release that the department will accept applicants who have an honorable discharge after at least four years military service.

Carter says the main purpose of the college requirement is to show a significant life experience accomplishment. He says military veterans have shown that commitment and know how to work under adverse conditions.

Carter said military service will be the only exception to the qualifications policy.
