Senate Procedural Snarl Could Shutdown FAA Again (Sep 14, 2011) WASHINGTON (AP) - The objections of U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and a procedural snarl could force another partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration at midnight Friday. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said today that Senate rules don't allow lawmakers to drop their current consideration of a disaster aid bill and shift to a stopgap funding measure for FAA and highway programs without the consent of all lawmakers. But Coburn is refusing to give his consent, saying he wants to eliminate highway program spending on bike paths, beautification projects and other so-called “transportation enhancements†from the stopgap bill. « back |
