Fallin Names 5 to State Board of Education (Sep 27, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin has announced five new appointees of the State Board of Education.

Fallin announced the new members on Tuesday after a state law went into effect that gives her the authority to reconstitute the makeup of the board.

Under the bill approved by the Legislature this year, Fallin has the authority to replace the board with members from each congressional district and an at-large position.

Fallin appointed retired Gen. Lee Baxter of Lawton from the 4th District, Amy Ford of Durant from the 2nd District, Phil Lakin Jr. of Tulsa from the 1st District, Bill Price of Oklahoma City from the 5th District and Bill Shdeed of Oklahoma City as the at-large member. All of the members still must be confirmed by the Senate.
