Oklahoma County Judge Tosses Redistricting Lawsuit (Oct 11, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma County judge has dismissed a state senator's lawsuit that alleges new Senate districts are unconstitutional.

Judge Lisa Davis dismissed the lawsuit Tuesday after a hearing in which attorneys for the state said it should be thrown out of court because the state Supreme Court has already ruled that the districts comply with the state Constitution.

The lawsuit filed by Democratic Sen. Jim Wilson of Tahlequah claims that the new districts that were drawn by the Senate after the 2010 Census violate requirements that include consideration be given to compactness and historical precedent.

Wilson's attorney - Mark Hammons - says he plans to appeal the ruling. Hammons says the new districts are based on partisan politics.
