$1 Million Grant to Okla. Victim's Services Unit (Oct 26, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt says the office's Victims Services Unit will receive a $1 million federal grant.

Pruitt said in a news release Wednesday that the money will be used to improve the Oklahoma Victim Information and Notification Everyday - or OK VINE - program. Pruitt says there will be upgrades to the program's technology, more personnel hired and more training and promotion of the program.

OK VINE allows victims, victim advocates, law enforcement and interested parties to track offenders in the state's criminal system.

The free service automatically sends notifications by phone, e-mail or text message to alerting users of any changes to an offender's status.

The grant is being awarded through the U.S. Bureau of Justice.
