Morrissette to File Prescription Drug Legislation (Nov 02, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY - State Rep. Richard Morrissette (D-Oklahoma City) plans to file legislation he says will correct what he calls “tragedy and frustration” for Oklahoma families and physicians.

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report out yesterday says Oklahoma has the highest rate of abuse of prescription painkillers over the past decade.

Morrissette says his bill will address several medications designed to relieve suffering of end-stage cancer patients.

He says because of ineffective classification and prescribing practices, record number of Oklahomans are able to over-medicate or acquire enough to market on the street.
