Fatal Crash Closes Northbound I-35 in Okla. City (Jan 06, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A semi-truck driver has been killed and northbound Interstate 35 has been closed following a collision in northeast Oklahoma City.

The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Friday at N.E. 122 Street. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol re-opened the road at 5:45 p.m.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Betsy Randolph says the driver of a tanker truck was headed south on the highway when his vehicle crossed the center median and collided with a northbound semi. The northbound truck hit a large highway signage pole, which severed the truck's engine and peeled back the trailer.

The northbound truck's driver died and the driver of the other truck was hospitalized. Randolph says officials are trying to determine whether another victim is trapped in the wreckage.

Motorists were diverted off the highway south of the accident, but Randolph says traffic is clogged for miles.
