Oklahoma Awards Grants for Brownfields Cleanup (Jan 09, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has awarded two grants of $200,000 each for asbestos abatement.

The grants announced Monday include one to Eastern Oklahoma State College for asbestos cleanup at its former student union building.

The other recipient is the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Intertribal Land Use Committee. The panel will use the grant for asbestos abatement of five buildings on the Fort Sill Indian School campus at Lawton.

The committee is to work with the Comanche Nation College to renovate the buildings to provide more space for the school.

The purpose of the grants is to remove environmental hazards so property can be brought back into use.
