Coburn Declines To Endorse Candidate (Feb 06, 2012)

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - An Oklahoma senator says he can't support former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's campaign for president.

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., told those attending a town hall meeting in Edmond Saturday that he's has served under Gingrich's leadership and doesn't believe he has "the moral rudder that is required to lead this country." According to a story in Sunday's The Oklahoman, Coburn added that doesn't mean he believes someone else does.

He said he liked Rep. Ron Paul, but added the Texan has no chance of winning the GOP nomination. Coburn said after the town hall that he's isn't endorsing any candidate for the Republican nomination.

When asked why he is friends with President Barack Obama, Coburn said he's disagreed with Obama many times but can do so without hating him.
