OU Considers New Admissions Policy (Apr 06, 2012)

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - A new admissions policy under consideration by the University of Oklahoma would factor in criteria other than applicants' grades and test scores.

The school now grants automatic admission to students who meet GPA and class rank requirements and score at least a 24 on the ACT or a 1,090 on the SAT. The Oklahoman reports the university is considering a policy that would also factor in high school course rigor and essay questions.

It's known as a holistic admissions system. The OU Board of Regents approved it last week and the proposal will go before the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education later this month.

Unlike a holistic admissions model used by Texas universities, the OU plan would not consider an applicant's race or ethnic background.
