Income Tax Plan Passes Senate Committee (May 21, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A plan to slash Oklahoma's top income tax rate has cleared a Senate panel, but opposition appears to be mounting among GOP members in the House.

The bill to cut the top income tax rate from 5.25 percent to 4.8 percent was approved by a Senate budget panel on Monday and now can be scheduled for a vote in the full House. But it's not clear if House leaders have enough votes to pass the measure on the floor.

House Republicans met behind closed doors for a third caucus meeting Monday afternoon to discuss the income tax plan.

All of the House Democrats have said they would oppose the plan, and at least some of the 67 Republicans have voiced concerns. A bill needs 51 votes to pass the House.
