OKC Crews Extinguish Commercial Fire (Jul 24, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma City fire crews have extinguished a five-alarm blaze at a chemical company near Interstate 35.

Deputy Fire Chief Marc Woodard says buildings adjacent to Bachman Services were evacuated for a time Tuesday as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Woodard says paramedics treated three people from the evacuated businesses for heat exhaustion at the scene.

The fire was contained about 4 p.m.

Battalion Chief Brian Stanaland says firefighters received a call about 1:09 p.m. of a fire at Bachman Services, an oil field chemical supplier. Stanaland says the report initially came in as a forklift fire.

Officials say one of the chemicals that burned was triazine, which is toxic and can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory system.

Woodard says crews will continue to monitor the site.
