Friday is Deadline for Aug 28 Primary Runoff (Aug 01, 2012)

Friday, August 3, 2012, is the deadline to submit a voter registration application for the August 28 Oklahoma Runoff Primary Election. A valid application must be received at the State Election Board, a county election board, a motor license agency, or a designated voter registration agency by August 3, or postmarked by August 3 if submitted by mail.

To register to vote, a person must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Oklahoma, and 18 years old or older on the date of the election. Persons judged incapacitated by a court may not register to vote. A convicted felon may not register for a period equal to the time of the original sentence (a convicted felon who has been pardoned may register).

It is a felony to submit false information on a voter registration application. If convicted, a person can be imprisoned for not more than five years, fined not more than $50,000.00, or both.

Oklahoma is a “closed primary” state. Only registered voters of a political party may vote to select their party's nominees in the Runoff Primary Election.

For a list of offices on the ballot or for more information about voter registration in Oklahoma, visit http://elections.ok.gov, call the State Election Board at 405-521-2391, or contact your county election board.
