Board of Education Rules on Waivers (Aug 03, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma State Board of Education has approved two waivers and denied one for students who appealed over state mandated End of Instruction tests.

The board voted 4-0 on each appeal Friday from students who did not pass the required number of tests in order to receive their high school diploma.

Beginning this year, high school seniors are required to score proficient in four of seven subjects to receive their diploma.

Tulsa Central student Robert Brown - the only student to appear before the board - had his appeal denied. Brown says he's disappointed but will continue working to pass the tests.

Brown says he has a band scholarship offer at Langston University and hopes the university will honor that until he meets the requirements to receive his diploma.
